Open, Don, Run!

Due to a special mechanism the filter sealing plugs are automatically removed when the packaging is opened and the hood can be immediately donned. The internal head harness automatically adjusts to the head shape of the wearer, providing reliable protection for at least 15 minutes.

Tested substances

Dräger has tested this respirator for its service life capacity against formaldehyde (HCHO), hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and mercury vapour (Hg) as shown in the chart above. These results are based on in-house and third party testing.

Robust packaging and reliable protection

When designing the Dräger PARAT, emphasis was placed on ergonomics and carrying comfort, while still providing reliable protection for the user. The light carrying bag can be secured with a shoulder strap or a belt loop. The mask itself is equipped with a scratch resistant visor and fits all sizes.

Flame resistance

The PARAT 4920 Escape Hood does not contain any easily flammable parts or does not burn when pulled through an open flame at (1.472 ± 122) °F with (60 ± 0,5) mm/s. After removal from the flame, the device stops burning (self-extinguishing).

Break the seal.

Pull the yellow flap downwards.

Step 3

Open the soft pack completely. The front filter sealing plug should be automatically removed.

Step 4

Remove the hood from the Soft Pack. Pull the hood against the holder, it will automatically open. The second filter sealing plug will automatically be detached when the hood is removed.

Step 5

Widen the neck seal and pull the hood over your head. The inner head harness automatically adjusts to your head. Ensure that nose and chin sit comfortably in the half mask.

Step 6

Check the fit of the half mask by closing the front filtering opening with the palm of your hand. If negative pressure is not generated readjust the half mask to ensure a close fit over nose & mouth.

In an emergency situation, there is no time to spare. Users don‘t have time to read lengthy instruction manuals for their equipment. An escape hood, especially, must be fast and easy to use.

What is the total lifetime of the PARAT Escape Hoods?

The maximum lifetime of the PARAT Escape Hoods is 16 years provided that the filter is changed after 8 years.

Is it possible to re-use the PARAT after it has been used?

No, the PARAT is for single use only. Hence, if the device has been used, it must be disposed of. Do not perform a filter exchange. Filter replacements are for devices which have reached their end of service lifetime in storage.

What certificates does the PARAT Escape Hood have?

The PARAT 4920 is approved according to NIOSH for multiple gases and particles, including Ammonia, Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Fluoride, Hydrogen Sulfide, Methylamine, Organic Vapors, Sulfur Dioxide and particles.

What material is used for the outside surface of the hoods?

The outside surface is made from polyamide. The material is proved and withstands HCl (100.0 vol%), CO (100.0 vol%), n-Heptane (4.6 vol%) and H2S (2.0 vol%) for 15 minutes. Furthermore, the material of our PARAT hoods is completely latex-free.

In which areas can the Dräger PARAT protective hood be used?

The protective hood can be used in case of fire (by the fire brigade or privately), during maintenance work and in operational use (against fire gases).
